Current Projects - Goal:
To be proactive and visionary in reducing risk from pathogenic contamination in the farm, food, water, and the environment through the development of rapid, early, online, on-site, and point-of-care detection systems. Such systems will help minimize food poisoning outbreaks in consumers, product contamination and recalls, and fight against potential bioterrorism.
Completed Projects:
- Chemiluminescence Detection of Microbial Contaminants on Fresh Produce - USDA National Food Safety Initiative.
- Rapid Detection of Pathogenic Contamination in Pork for HACCP Monitoring -National Pork Producers Council.
- in vivo Detection of E. coli O157:H7 in Lambs as Ruminant Model of Cattle - Michigan Animal Initiative.
- Student portfolios to encourage learning in Biological Engineering - USDA Higher Education Challenge Grants.
- Early detection of pathogenic contamination in packaged plant food products as post-harvest HACCP protocol. Part 1. Contamination from Salmonella typhimurium - Michigan Plant Industry Initiative (GREEEN).
