Compute Servers

Files or directories more than three days old on /egr/scratch are removed because scratch space is temporary space. /egr/scratch is never backed up. Files needed for long-term usage or archives should be stored in another directory that is backed up, such as /home or /egr/research.

• Sun Grid Engine is available to run a process (job) on a server and have it continue after you have logged out or otherwise lost connection to the server. It can be used to run jobs on multiple machines, selecting the best suited server to run your job as fast as possible. This eliminates the need for you to be concerned with which machine to run your job.
• Screen and Nohup are available to run a process (job) on a server and have it continue after you have logged out or otherwise lost connection to the server.
• All servers with an uptime greater than 30 days are subject to being rebooted for maintenance and patches, usually only between 6am-8am. All servers are subject to an unscheduled reboot if an emergency maintenance procedure requires it. Scully is subject to being rebooted for maintenance and patches on any day, usually 6am-8am.
